5 Keys to Action in Australia with Troy Bayliss

Friday, 22 February 2019 07:40 GMT

WorldSBK Legend Troy Bayliss gives his guide to the racing weekend at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, the traditional season opening venue for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship.

The Yamaha Finance Australian Round promises to be a thriller and triple WorldSBK Champion Troy Bayliss tells us why! Having taken victory at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit no less than six times, along with three pole positions, an Australian WorldSBK legend talks atmosphere, the new Ducati Panigale and those out to stop Rea´s charge for a fifth consecutive WorldSBK crown!

1.)There is a new bike with the Ducati V4 R

“For some reason right now, Alvaro Bautista is looking really good on the bike and is very comfortable; I’m sure Chaz will get his head round it too, but we will have to wait and see how this weekend goes. Ducati have stepped it up a notch and they´re going to give Kawasaki a hard time this year.”

2.) Rea´s competition increases for 2019

“Yes, for sure and I really think that Tom Sykes on the BMW (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) is going to surprise a few people as well. Hopefully, it will be a great year of racing and I’ll be looking forward to watching it throughout the season!”

3.) Plenty of manufacturer support in 2019

“It’s really great to see Honda back and, back in the day when I was racing, we always had a big competition against Honda. It is great for World Superbike and Moriwaki being strongly involved is great to see too, they’ve been around for such a long time.”

4.) We need an expert opinion on the Phillip Island weather

“I think right now we are lucky because it has been really good conditions so far. Sometimes, we say that ‘it’s looking good for the weekend, but you never know for tomorrow’. The weather has been similar over the last couple of days and it is perfect riding conditions. This means it has been great for the tyres and you don’t really want to have much heat here because that makes it difficult for everyone.”

5.) The Australian atmosphere is always awesome

“I love coming to Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and I’ve had lots of great results here over the years. All the fans love coming here, they love Cowes, they love the town and it is very special for them. It is a special track for a lot of people.”
